Residential Life at Tallulah Falls SchoolOur program affords students the opportunity to bond with one another and form lasting friendships. The independence of living away from home allows students to develop a respect for self, an appreciation of family, a respect for others, and a respect for a caring school owned and operated by a bunch of "mamas" (The Georgia Federation of Women's Clubs) for 100 years. The love of these ladies for their school is reflected through beautiful dormitories (dormitory rooms that are larger and nicer than most college dorm rooms), a state of the art Student Center (with billiard tables, table tennis tables, air hockey tables, foosball tables, movie room, video game room, and sports grill room with flat screen televisions and dance floor), a state of the art Fitness Center, Gymnasium, Tennis Courts, Baseball Field, Soccer Field, and best of all, the Federation Dining Hall with fabulous Southern cooking (the way Grandma does it), a fresh salad bar, homemade soups, sandwich station, and homemade deserts.
Through the residential life program, students develop an understanding of the importance of time and managing it wisely. TFS students work hard, play hard, study hard, and sleep well. Each student is assigned a work assignment by semester (approximately 45 minutes, Monday-Friday every other week) in the dining hall, dormitories, classroom building or administration building. Through each work assignment, the student takes ownership in the care of the school, by reporting to work on time, taking pride in the task at hand, and working well with others. Students have free time after school Monday-Friday from 4pm-6pm for Sports (Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball, Cheerleading, Tennis, Baseball, Track and Field, and Fitness Training), Clubs (Art, Music, Drama, Astronomy, Math, Outdoor, Recycling, Juniorettes, Key Club, and the National Honor Society), Student Center activities, and relaxing in the dormitories. Dinner is served in Federation Hall at 6pm and students return to the dormitories for study time from 7:30pm-9:30pm each evening Sunday-Thursday. Wireless Internet is available as an educational resource in the dormitories and Student Center. Lights out is at 10pm for underclassmen and 11pm for Seniors. Late lights privileges are granted by the dormitory counselors for students on an at need basis for additional study.
The school calendar is defined by 4 Open Weekend breaks (Labor Day Weekend, Mid October, Late January, and Mother's Day Weekend) and 4 Holiday breaks (Thanksgiving Week, Christmas and New Years Weeks, Winter Break- the first week of March, and Spring Break- the 2nd week of April). However, when on campus, students are encouraged to spend weekends participating in a variety of activities. Weekend adventures are fun and plentiful and include such activities as movies, unique restaurants, roller skating, iceskating, bowling, mall crawl, snowskiing, whitewater rafting, zorbing, ziplining, fishing, paintball, hiking, lake kayaking, cycling, Atlanta Falcons football games, Atlanta Hawks basketball games, Atlanta Thrashers hockey, Atlanta Braves, Fox Theatre, Cirque du Soleil, Ringling Brothers Circus, UGA Sports, Six Flags, Stone Mountain Park, Fun Factory, Renaissance Festival, Helen trips, Coffee House trips, and Socials on campus at the fire-pit and Student Center. On Sundays, a non-denominational chapel service is held in the Norwood Key Taylor Chapel. Students are required to attend chapel or may choose to attend area churches with school staff. Weekend Leaves are granted on regular weekends at the request of parents and guardians.
In addition to the Weekend activities, Middle School students participate on a special graded trip. The Sixth grade goes on a 3 day/3 night trip to Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Seventh grade goes on a 5 day/4 night trip to the Kennedy Space Center and St. Augustine, Florida. The Eighth grade goes on a 5 day/ 4 night trip to Jekyll Island, Okefenokee Swamp, and Savannah, Georgia. An annual international trip is offered to interested students and families during Winter Break.
