Mbaba and Shirley Named Indians of the Week
Posted On: Monday February 22, 2010
Coaches at Tallulah Falls School recently selected Sierra Shirley and Brandon Mbaba as their "Indian Athletes of the Week." Varsity girls coach Rick Hammock chose Sierra Shirley of Turnerville as his recipient. Shirley, though only a freshman, averaged 18 points per game during a one week stretch in mid-February. Coach Hammock praised Shirley's "work ethic," noting that "her hard work had paid off by virtue of her selection to the 8-A All-Region Team, honorable mention."
The other recipient of Indian of the Week honors was junior Brandon Mbaba of Stone Mountain. Mbaba is no stranger to this honor, having been chosen previously during the season. Mbaba scored 20 points and pulled down 14 rebounds in a recent game against Athens Christian, with 18 points coming in the second half. According to boys coach David Chester, "Brandon has really matured over the second half of the season and has developed the ability to take over a game."
