Winter Sports Athletes Recognized at Dillard House Banquet

Tallulah Falls School basketball players and cheering squad members recently celebrated a successful winter sports season with an awards banquet held Wednesday, February 24 at the Dillard House in Rabun County. Over 40 student-athletes attended the event along with parents and coaches. Student-athletes in attendance were recognized for team participation, earning varsity letters, and individual awards.

Girls basketball coaches Rick Hammock and Randy Morris selected four student-athletes to receive special recognition. Senior Destinee Johnson of Stockbridge received the Heart Award. The Impact Player Award went to freshman Sierra Shirley of Turnerville. Sharon Durkan, a senior from John's Creek, received the Leadership Award. The Most Valuable Player Award went to senior Oge Okoye of Fayetteville. Okoye also received a plaque for being named to the 8-A All Region Team, 2nd Team.

Varsity boys coaches David Chester and Matt Heyl singled out four of their players to receive individual awards. The Coach's Award was given to junior Malcolm Jones of Lithonia. The Currahee Award went to senior Devon Mayfield of Toccoa. The Most Improved Player Award was given to Marvin Humbert of Avondale Estates. The big winner was junior Brandon Mbaba of Stone Mountain. Mbaba was selected to receive the Most Valuable Player award, and was also recognized as a member of the 8-A All Region Team, Honorable Mention.

Cheering coaches Alexia Chandler and Amanda Lewis recognized 4 members of the varsity cheering squad for individual awards. The Extra Mile Award went to senior Lindsey Hodge of Commerce. The Most Improved Award was given to senior Joelisa Hilario of The Bronx, New York. Sophomore Subin Park of South Korea received the Coach’s Award, and the Most Valuable Teamate Award went to senior Crystal Hitchcock of Athens.
