TFS varsity cross country team improves times at Eagle Invite
Another Saturday morning meet for the Tallulah Falls School varsity cross country team at Jefferson’s Lamar Murphy Park resulted in faster times for the majority of the harriers. The team competed in the Eagle Invitational on September 10 with a total of eight teams represented.
“Early morning racing after a pre-dawn departure provides a cooler - if there is such a thing in Georgia in late summer - experience that reduced oxygen suck enough to run faster with the same agony,” said Athletic Director Scott Neal.
Highlights include the most significant time improvements by senior Anne Edwards of Sautee Nacoochee, junior Reece Bates of Clarkesville, junior Perry Gresham of Clarkesville, freshman John Nichols of Clarkesville, freshman Chris Geiger of Sautee Nacoochee, sophomore Xing Fan of China and junior Max Teems of Sautee Nacoochee.
TFS JV girls placed third of four teams, four points shy of the higher place. JV boys finished fourth of six schools. Varsity boys scored 146 points to place sixth of eight and three points shy of region foe Athens Christian, Neal said.
“We are proud of the improvements in fitness and racing strategy, yet understand clearly we have a plan to elevate our standing by improving racing strategy, teamwork and pacing in the coming weeks,” Neal said.
