Key Club Members Attend Distric Convention
Members of the Tallulah Falls School Key Club received multiple awards at the recent District Convention held in Atlanta March 18-20.
According to Faculty Advisor Scott Davis, the following students attended:
District Bulletin Editor Mark Faingold, President Michelle Namkung, Secretary Arthur Yang, Kelli Choi, Yuting Zhang, Eva Fang, Jason Lin, Carrie Zhao and Katherine Chen
The club received several honors and awards at the event, including:
- First place in the Non-Traditional Scrapbook contest. “This was thanks to a dedicated team and judges who were, and I quote, ‘blown away’ by our creativity,” Davis says.
- First Place at Silver Level for Outstanding Community Service;
- First Place at Silver Level for our Single Service Project, which involves making blankets for Project Linus, a program for children in long-term hospital care;
- Second Place in the Non-Digital Poster Contest; and
- Second Place in the Quiz Bowl thanks to Arthur Yang and Yuting Zhang.
Additionally, Jason Lin was selected as one of three talents to perform Saturday night. “He brought down the house in the talent competition, with his Chinese yo-yo. I have it on good authority that, if DCON still gave out place awards, he would have won first,” Davis says. “I think everyone who saw it went home to order one on Amazon.”
The attendees well represented the club, the school, and themselves throughout the convention, Davis says.
“I had several attendees tell me how nice our group was. Many thanks to TFS middle school counselor Elizabeth Kyle for her essential help in this endeavor as an additional chaperon. In addition, it was the hard work of the entire Key Club that has prepared us for these accolades.”
According to Davis, Mark Faingold deserves special recognition for his role as District Bulletin Editor.
“This is the first year that TFS has had state level officers,” Davis says. “Thanks, Mark, for blazing the trail.”
