TFS Lady Indians victorious over Hebron Lions in final seconds
In what has become a pattern this season, in a last-second burst on Dec. 11, the Tallulah Falls School Lady Indians bested the Hebron Christian School Lions, with a final score of 46-45.
The team is now 7-2, according to Head Coach Brandy Corbett.
The team was slow to gain ground in the first quarter, Corbett said.
“After a stronger second quarter, we went into halftime up 20-18,” she said. “It was a back and forth game and we were fortunate to come away with the win at the end.”
Five games thus far this season have come down to the last few minutes, she said.
“Four of these five games, we have been able to finish with the win and I am very proud of our girls for believing we can secure a win in the last crucial minutes of a game,” she said. “Nonetheless, I would really like for us to play more consistently for 32 minutes.”
Junior and recent Indian of the Month recipient Santy Dembele of Tampa hit 8 of 10 from the free throw line and 7 of 8 during the second half.
“She and Katy Corbett [a sophomore from Lakemont] did an excellent job slowing down No. 21 and No. 5 when we made our defensive adjustment at halftime,” Corbett said. “Lillie Free [a junior from Clarkesville] stepped up offensively and scored 15 points when Hebron started off in a box and one on Nyah Williams [a senior from Cornelia]. But near the end of the game, Nyah asked to have No. 21 and really helped to contain her.”
According to Corbett, freshman Macy Murdock of Carnesville scored her first points of the season.
“She played extremely well defensively,” she said. “She was the spark we needed that helped to swing the momentum our way.”
The Indians [varsity boys, varsity girls and JV boys] next play on Dec. 14 versus Highlands.
