TFS coaches name Indians of the Month for December
Tallulah Falls School coaches have named their Indian Athletes of the Month for December.
MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRL
Seventh-grader Ellie Southards of Dillard was named an Indian of the Month by middle school girls basketball coach Sharea Long. “Ellie continues to lead her team both verbally and by example,” Long said. “She gives 110% day-in and day-out. Her passion for the game is unbelievable. She is both our leading scorer and leading rebounder. The team depends on Ellie in several ways and she is always working diligently to fulfill those needs. She’s the type of player that every coach wants to lead.”
MIDDLE SCHOOL BOY
Eighth-grader Bryan Cope of Mt. Airy was selected as an Indian of the Month by middle school basketball coach Tom Tilley. “Bryan had an amazing performance in our 28-25 win against rival Highlands this past Monday,” Tilley said. “He netted 16 points, snagged 13 rebounds and had five blocks and three steals in a dominating performance.”
VARSITY GIRL
Senior Nyah Williams of Cornelia was selected as an Indian of the Month by varsity girls basketball coach Brandy Corbett. “Nyah has served as the foundation of our solid 11-4 start this season,” Corbett said. “As a junior, she surpassed the 1,000-point scoring mark and has earned numerous accolades for her skills as a basketball player. Recently, Nyah was chosen as the Blitz Player of the Week and she scored 40 points, beating her previous school record of 36, in our win against Atlanta International School. She is also an excellent student-athlete who recently was awarded a full academic scholarship to UPenn.”
VARSITY BOY
Junior Matthew Weidner of Demorest was named an Indian of the Month by varsity boys basketball coach Jim Van Hooser. “In December, Matthew averaged 15.4 points-per-game and seven rebounds per game,” Van Hooser said, “Matthew led the team with an effective field goal percentage of 56.1% as well as leading the team in three-pointers made, points-per-game and free throw percentage (87%). Matthew has consistently been one of the highest-scoring players in the Region despite being double and triple-teamed.”
