MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRL 

Sixth-grader Haygen James of Demorest was named an Indian of the Week by middle school girls basketball coach Sharea Long. “Coming off Christmas break, Haygen really stepped up her game,” Long said. “She has averaged a little over eight points-per-game in the last three games. In the 40-15 victory over Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School, Haygen had a season-high 15 points. Haygen is not afraid to take the short jumper from the block or step out behind the three-point line and knock it down. She is a big asset going into our final regular season games and the Tri-State tournament.”

MIDDLE SCHOOL BOY

Sixth-grader Wyatt Franks of Lula was selected as an Indian of the Week by middle school boys basketball ‘B’ squad coach Anthony Cox. “Wyatt is a hard-working player who brings a great deal of energy to our team,” Cox said. “He plays very hard defensively and is selfless. In the final game of the season, Wyatt sealed our victory over Summit Charter with two huge free throws in a 35-30 win. Wyatt works so hard in practice and he always makes a positive contribution. He is representative of a number of our players who stay ready to play whenever their number is called.” 

VARSITY GIRL

Sophomore Anna May of Waycross was named an Indian of the Week by precision rifle team coach Tim Stamey. “Anna came to TFS as a second-year shooter and has worked extremely hard while helping build our team cohesiveness,” Stamey said. “Her scores in all three positions have dramatically increased. While shooting the Junior Olympic standing position at the National Qualifier last week, Anna overcame the intense pressure of such an important match that qualifies two to three athletes per state. Anna shot a 558, high enough to qualify for her varsity letter in the first match of the season.” 

VARSITY BOY

Junior Reeves Cody of Cornelia was selected as an Indian of the Week by varsity basketball coach Jim Van Hooser. “Cody had the best game of his career on Tuesday,” Van Hooser said. “He led the team with 27 points which included five-for-seven from beyond the three-point line in a region win at Commerce High School. Reeves also had five rebounds and five assists with no turnovers in the win. He has continually displayed a concern for the improvement of his teammates as well as himself.”
