Willy Wonka Kids a runaway hit

Theatre in Our Schools month is off to a brilliant start, according to Tallulah Falls School music teacher Memrie Cox. Sixth-grade students presented Willy Wonka Kids on March 7.

“Thirty-tree sixth-graders enrolled in a brand new elective class in January working toward the overarching goal to learn and present a Broadway musical within a nine-week period,” Cox said.

The class, taught by Cox and Kerri Pugh, worked hard, supported by an additional 14 students in art teacher Cat Shappach's class, responsible for building sets and props.

Also lending creative help was drama teacher Carrie Layer's upper school theatre tech class and middle school administrative assistant Jonathan Roberts' technical knowledge and support.

“This musical production is just another step for the fine arts department toward a more inclusive, collaborative support system wherein we are all stronger as we work together,” Cox said.
