TFS varsity volleyball celebrates seniorsĀ

On Oct. 8, Tallulah Falls School’s varsity volleyball team defeated Providence Christian School 3-1 on Senior Night.

Senior Lillie Free of Clarkesville played well for the Lady Indians on both sides of the ball, with 15 digs, five aces and five kills, according to coach Matt Heyl.

Senior Kate Blackburn of Demorest was the maestro for the TFS offense, leading the team with 20 assists, while also contributing eight kills and 11 digs, Heyl said.

Senior Vjera Radovic of Montenegro also played for the Lady Indians this season.
Seniors Jihee Han of South Korea, Jade Ye of China and Mariama Bah of Great Britain served as the team’s managers.

“Senior night was a great success. Two of our seniors – Kate Blackburn and Lillie Free – have been in our program since sixth grade,” coach Matt Heyl said. “They have worked and sacrificed many, many hours for their team. We honored our senior players and managers with gifts and personal notes to let them know how much they mean to us. Jihee Han, also a senior, has served the volleyball program as a manager for several years with great dedication.”

After finishing second in the 8-A Private region tournament last weekend, the team geared up to play North Cobb Christian in the first round of the state tournament. TFS fell to NCC 3-0 on Saturday, Oct. 19, in the playoffs, but coach Heyl was extremely impressed with how they prepared.

“The Lady Indians worked hard all week to prepare for the first round of the GHSA State Playoffs,” coach Heyl said. “It started with two hours of watching a video of North Cobb Christian and taking lots of notes from that video on Monday.  Each girl had an assignment to watch a specific player and take notes on every tendency they had. Then we designed our practices around those notes and worked hard to implement the notes and improve ourselves at the same time. These ladies worked overtime preparing themselves. I am very proud of them.”
