TFS Veterans Day program honors those who served

A special assembly at Tallulah Falls School honored veterans from all branches of the armed service, specifically those who have a connection to the school community.

Introduced by his daughter junior Samantha Stamey, retired U.S. Air Force Mst. Sgt. Tim Stamey shared remarks about patriotism, telling students to strive for common ground in interactions with others. Stamey is the head coach of the school’s precision rifle team.

“I challenge you to look at each other and see what you have in common. Take this when you leave here and try to change the nation,” Stamey said. “You’d be surprised. You can live forever just by instilling things in other people; good things in people. And they will take it on farther. That, to me, is what patriotism is all about; It’s loving your fellow man, your community and your country and trying to leave it a better place.”

Honored staff members were President and Head of School Larry A. Peevy [U.S. Army]; Director of Security Dustin Rogers [U.S. Marines, U.S. Army National Guard]; Director of Communications Brian Boyd [U.S. Air Force]; Student Center Assistant Manager Rick Smith [U.S. Army]; Maintenance Manager Toby Hunter [U.S. Marine Corps.]; grandfather of freshman Henry Bowman, Norman Foster [U.S. Army].

The TFS Chorus performed America the Beautiful, the Armed Service Medley and the National Anthem.

Senior class president Gabe Iluma of Nigeria and vice president Lily Cranford of Mt. Airy presented the U.S. flag and the State of Georgia flag to start the program.
