TFS senior awarded Georgia College Trustee scholarship

A surprise visitor delivered welcome news to Sarah Edwards, a Tallulah Falls School senior from Sautee Nacoochee. Jillian Bolak, regional admissions counselor for Georgia College was on campus Dec. 13 to present Edwards with the prestigious Trustee Scholarship.

This is the highest scholarship given by Georgia College, Bolak said, with a $6,000 four-year renewable award. A study-abroad stipend and admissions to the Honors Program are also included. The selection process is highly competitive with a minimum GPA of 3.5, a minimum score of 1310 on the SAT and a 28 on the ACT required to submit an extensive application and be invited to campus for a personal interview.

According to the Georgia College website, the Trustee Award is part of the President’s Scholarship Competition, an opportunity for high-achieving high school seniors from across the country to compete for Georgia College’s most prestigious scholarships. The PSC awards scholarships to incoming first-year students with superior academic accomplishments. These are among the most prestigious – and competitive – awards offered to freshmen.

Edwards expressed appreciation upon hearing the news.

“I am so grateful for the incredible generosity of Georgia College,” Edwards said. “It is an amazing opportunity and I am excited to see where this could lead.”

President and Head of School Larry A. Peevy was present for the ceremony.

“I am so proud of Sarah Edwards. This is the highest scholarship awarded by Georgia College,” Peevy said. I can think of no one more deserving than Sarah. I wish her the best as she considers her leadership opportunities at Georgia College.”
