Lady Indians win one, drop two in opening action at North Forsyth

The Lady Indians opened the season by snatching a thrilling three-set win over Flowery Branch, but dropped a pair of other matches in the playdate at North Forsyth.

The host school started off with a narrow 25-23 win in the first set, as the teams battled point for point. Tallulah Falls couldn't get enough traction to force a third set, losing 25-11 to fall 2-0 to North Forsyth.

In need of a momentum boost, the Lady Indians squared off with Flowery Branch. In the opening set, it was FB that narrowly escaped with a 25-20 set win. Tallulah Falls battled back for a nail-biting 28-26 thriller to force set three. The girls, behind solid play from seniors Katy Corbett, Rebekah Jennings and Abby Carlan, won 15-10 to take their first match of the season.

In the finale, TFS took a decisive 25-19 win over Lumpkin County. However, Lumpkin came back to still the second set, 25-23, and ultimately won the final set 15-13 in what proved to be a dramatic and intense matchup.

"We have a long way to go," said coach Matt Heyl. "Every area of the game was off a little. The highlight was sophomore Sarah Jennings leading the team with kills and all-around great play and effort."

Now 1-2 on the season, Tallulah Falls School returns to action on Saturday at Parkview.
