JV volleyball storms back, splits with Athens Academy
The JV Lady Indians volleyball team played two matches on Thursday night against Athens Academy. TFS had a great start, getting out to an early lead thanks to spot-on serving and excellent hitting. However, Athens Academy dug in on defense and turned the momentum in their favor, squeaking out a 26-24 first set win.
Riding momentum, Athens Academy easily took the second set, handing TFS a loss for the first match of the night. The Lady Spartans continued their winning streak by taking the first set of the second match, but the Lady Indians weren't ready to give up.
TFS came roaring back in the second set to win 25-18, pushing the match to a third set - one in which the Lady Indians would win.
"Reese Wilson confidently stepped up for serving in the third set and led us on a six-point run to give us a nice lead," says coach Matt Crotta. "Thanks to Kitty Rodena's confident leadership and excellent hitting from the outside position, the Lady Indians surprised Athens Academy and took the second match in three sets."
The girls are now 5-6 overall and 1-1 in area play on the season. They return to the court on Tuesday, September 15 against Athens Christian and George Walton at home.
