Tennis excels at Rabun Gap, remains perfect

The Tallulah Falls School middle school tennis teams picked up another pair of wins over Rabun Gap. This time on the road, the boys won 5-0 and the girls won 3-2.

Among the highlights of the match was the serving of boys #1 singles player Tanner Davis.

"Tanner is on fire with his game, especially his serve," states coach Lisa Wilcox. "During his match, he served the ball and I promise it was probably 120 mph at least...and it was in for an ace. At this level, that is a rarity. His opponent's reaction was just as honest as he was surprised? His reaction gave me a giggle as well as the fans watching. Well, it didn't stop there, the very next serve, Tanner must have served it the same speed. Now, it didn't go in, but it was so fast that this young man couldn't get out of the way of the ball before it bounced and slightly hit him. This was an automatic point for Tanner. This young man again, gave us all another chuckle as he said, 'Wow! That was really fast!' and walked to the other side of the court to ready himself for the next point."

Davis went on to win his match 8-0 as the boys took a relatively easy win, 5-0, over Rabun Gap.

"On the girls side, I left the courts with no fingernails," says Wilcox. "We previously had won against Rabun Gap 4-1 but I knew as a coach how close each of the girls matches were. Therefore, I was going into this match a little nervous, but our girls weren't. They were as 'happy go lucky' as ever."

The girls fought their way to a 3-2 win behind great play by Lizzie Heubner (won 8-6) and Madeline Martin (won 8-2).

The boys and girls both move to 4-0 on the season, and play on Wednesday at Rabun County.
