Tennis teams complete undefeated regular season

The boys and girls tennis teams both moved to 7-0 on the season after a sweep of Rabun County at home on Wednesday afternoon. The boys won 5-0, as did the girls.

"What a match," exclaims coach Lisa Wilcox. "Both teams played so well that we were off the courts earlier than usual."

Tanner Davis (#1 singles) moved to 6-1 individually on the season with an 8-1 win over his opponent. Landry Carnes, playing #2 singles for the girls, was down 0-2 and stormed back for an 8-2 win. She also is 6-1 overall on the season.

"Tanner was holding his own serving tremendously and returning balls that were very competitive winning points over and over again," says Wilcox. "On the other court, Landry was playing nervous. I told her the butterflies that were hanging around needed to line up and fly away. Her opponent did not win another game. Landry took charge and played with tremendous confidence."

Boys #3 singles Everett VanOrman held off a tough opponent as well, winning 8-5. The win gave him a perfect 7-0 regular season mark. VanOrman, Lizzie Huebner, Madeline Martin, both boys doubles combos and the #1 doubles combo for the girls all finished the regular season without a loss.

"I couldn't be more proud for both of these teams," says Wilcox.

Because of the undefeated regular season by both, they automatically advance to the semifinals and championships matches that will be held next week at TFS. The boys play at 2 PM on Wednesday, October 7, and the girls play Thursday, October 8 at 2 PM.
