Varsity, JV girls sweep past Prince Avenue

 
 

The Lady Indians varsity and JV teams earned wins on Saturday at home over Prince Avenue Christian. The JV girls opened with a 41-29 win, and the varsity took a 49-40 victory.

JV

The JV girls found themselves up just 18-10 at the break, and held a 31-25 lead going into the final quarter. A 10-4 run secured the win for the Lady Indians, who move to 3-1 on the season after winning 41-29.

Kailyn Neal and Tanisha Seymour both scored 9 points, while Kyndal Anderson and Molly Mitchell had six and five, respectively. Nine different players scored points in the win.

VARSITY

The Lady Indians came in ranked #10 in the state, and despite falling behind by as many as 10 points early on, stormed back to take a lead around 20. That shrunk by the end of regulation, but the girls held on for a 49-40 win.

TFS was down 11-9 after the first, but outscored the opponents 14-3 in the second to pull ahead 23-12 going into the half. Both teams traded buckets throughout the third and fourth quarters.

Veronaye Charlton led the Lady Indians with 15 points, Denika Lightbourne added 14, and Katy Corbett 10. Iray Adeleke had four points, and Abby Carlan and Molly Mitchell finished with two apiece. The Lady Indians are now 8-3 overall and 1-0 in region play after the 2021 opener.
