MS Indians fall at Towns in conference title game

 
 

The Indians fell in a tightly-contested game against Towns County in Hiawassee on Saturday in the Tri-State Conference Championship game, 32-27.

Though TFS led for nearly the entire game, the home team hit a pair of late 3-pointers to complete a fourth quarter comeback.

A Macade Huff trifecta had TFS in front in the first, and Derrick Lane hit a near half-court shot to beat the buzzer, giving the Indians a 12-8 lead after one.

In the second, Huff got a bucket to go, which stretched the lead up to 16-8 for TFS. That represented the largest lead of the game. The Indians were up 16-10 at the half.

In the third, both teams chipped in 5 points, leaving it at 21-15 going into the final stanza. The Indians, were up 6 points when Ethan Wheeler’s basket off a nice pass from Asa Popham made it 24-18. Towns hit back-to-back 3-pointers to tie the ball game, and went on a 13-0 run to pull ahead 31-24.

Wheeler connected on a 3-pointer in the closing seconds to polish off the scoring at 32-27. Huff had 13 points and 5 rebounds, while Wheeler had 10 points and 5 rebounds. Lane had 3 points and Popham one to round out the scoring.

The Indians close the season at 9-4 and finish as the conference runner-up.
