MS Indians finish season with double header sweep of Rabun Gap
The TFS MS baseball team traveled to Rabun Gap on Friday evening for their season-ending double header. The Indians won the first game 17-0 in 4 innings before an 18-1 2-inning game to close it out.
In the first game, TFS opened with a 6-run first inning. Wyatt Dorsey had a 2-run single, leading up to RBI singles by Griffin Harkness and Asa Popham. Later in the frame, both Brantley Allen and Ryder Cantrell also had run-scoring singles. TFS put up a single run in the second when Jackson Savage notched an RBI single.
In the third, the offense exploded for 7 more runs. Dorsey had an RBI double, as did Popham, while Ethan Wheeler got a run home as well. Up 14-0, the Indians struck for 3 more in the final inning, as Harkness notched a 2-run triple to highlight the inning. Harkness picked up the win, going one inning and striking out 2 batters. Drew Barron pitched 2 innings of excellent relief with 4 strikeouts, and Jack Greene ended the game with a solid inning as well. The trio combined for a 4-inning no-hitter with 7 strikeouts and just one walk.
Dorsey had 2 hits and 3 RBI, while Popham had 3 hits, 2 RBI, and 4 runs scored. Savage recorded 3 hits and an RBI, and Allen, Cantrell, and Greene all had 2 hits each as well.
In the finale, the Indians blew open the game early with an 11-run first inning. Savage and Dorsey had back-to-back triples, with Dorsey's netting a run. Greene and Garrett Dorsey, as well as Teagan Penland, and Barron all had RBIs in the inning. Savage came back up with an RBI double, while Dorsey notched another RBI triple. Wheeler then had an RBI double that turned into another run, as he raced all the way around the bases when the outfielder let it get by him.
The Indians had 7 more in the second inning, as Rylee Smith led off with a triple and scored on a Penland fielder's choice. Merrick Carnes had a double, Cantrell recorded a 2-run single, and Morgan Martin had an RBI groundout. Before the inning closed, Smith brought home 2 more on a base hit, and Garrett Dorsey had an RBI fielder's choice.
Wheeler pitched the 2 innings, earning the win while allowing an unearned run and one hit against 3 strikeouts.
TFS closes the season with a 7-3 record, as the boys won their final 5 games.
