Season Recap: MS Baseball

After an 0-2 start to the season for the MS Indians baseball team, the boys were desparate to show they were better than their record would indicate. A season-opening loss at Clarke Central came in walk-off fashion, and a subsequent road loss of 16-1 against a very good and much more experienced Loganville Christian team was not indicative of what the team was capable of.

Then came elements out of Tallulah Falls' control. Rain, and lots of it. Several games got canceled or postponed, and it was nearly a month before the Indians could right the ship when going to Towns County on March 10. The offense came alive, and the pitching and defense held strong for an 8-4 win to get TFS in the win column. A road split a few days later at Lumpkin County had Tallulah Falls at a respectable 2-3 overall.

The Indians finally got their first home game on March 22 against Towns County, and took an 8-1 win that would propel the team the rest of the way. TFS closed the 2022 season with 5 straight wins, including a home double-header sweep of Loganville Christian and a double-header sweep on the road at Rabun Gap to polish it off. In the first win over Loganville Christian, Asa Popham scored on a wild pitch to walk it off in a 9-8 victory. What followed was an 11-1 second-game win to sweep the twin billing. Closing out at Rabun Gap, the Indians won 17-0 and 18-1 in a combined 6 innings of play.

Overall, TFS finished at 7-3, with all players on the team contributing to the success. A team that consists of eight eighth-graders will certainly be different next year, though many younger players showed great promise for next year and beyond. Wyatt Dorsey led the team in nearly every category offensively, as he hit .643 with 14 RBI and 15 runs scored, adding 7 doubles, 2 triples, and 8 stolen bases while registering a .697 OBP. Griffin Harkness and Ethan Wheeler were dominant on the mound, as Harkness (3-0, 1.65 ERA, 10 K) and Wheeler (2-1, 1.75 ERA, 25 K) combined for 3 complete games and 11 appearances.
