Indians take 13-11 win over Athens Christian

 
 

The Indians closed their region portion of the season with a 13-11 high-scoring win over Athens Christian to finish return to .500. TFS fell behind 5-0 in the first before retaliating with five of their own in the home half. A four-run second and four-run fifth completed the Indians' output.

Athens Christian hit a grand slam in the first inning. Norman Bastian got a run home for the Indians with a bases-loaded walk prior to a Jeremy Medina RBI single. Malique Charlton and Danny Grant both had groundouts that turned into runs, and David Medina tied the game with a run-scoring base hit to left.

After trailing 6-5 going into the bottom of the second, Bastian tied the game on an RBI groundout, and Frankey Moree had a go-ahead single to plate Drew Bates. Charlton had a sacrifice fly, and Grant had a bunt single that scored a run to make it 9-6. Athens Christian chipped away and took a 10-9 lead in the fifth. In the home half, Bastian tied the ball game with an RBI double, scoring Bates.

Charlton then provided the winning hit with a bases-clearing double to make it 13-10. The tying run was on second when the Indians retired the final batter in the seventh. TFS recorded 13 hits in the game, with Joel Miller, Bates, Bastian, Jeremy Medina, and Charlton all adding two hits apiece. Charlton finished with 4 RBI.

Jeremy Medina picked up the win after going four innings, striking out four while surrendering seven earned runs. The Indians finish the season officially with a Saturday game against Lumpkin County.
