Dragons, Laughter, and Royal Rivalry: TFS Middle School Students Shine in Seventh Annual Madrigal Performance

Dragons, a boar’s head, silly jokes, strange spells, and dramatically different royal sisters were perfectly medieval at the 2026 TFS Madrigal. The seventh annual performance by TFS seventh- and eighth-graders delighted the audience and showcased the artistic talents of TFS middle school students.

The annual Madrigal has become a cherished tradition, allowing middle school students to develop their talents on stage while working together to bring a full-scale production to life. Students run the sound and lights and even take charge of costume design.

Seventh-grader Turner Lander of Lula praises seventh-grader Alaina Bray of Baldwin for her dedication to the design. Our costume designer did a fabulous job,” he said. “She spent so much time putting together our costumes. She got there early and stayed late to work on the costumes.”

Lander played Sir Gareth, an undercover prince trying to prove my worth. “I was trying to achieve nobility by merit, not by name. That was one of my lines,” he said. “It was fun to have a big role, and I really enjoyed the cast. We were all hyped about getting to do it.”

Lander explained that many seventh graders had not acted before and were really excited about the opportunity. “It was cool to watch those who were uncomfortable with acting grow more comfortable with acting,” Lander said. “My classmates were texting me and saying they want to join the theater.”

Middle school drama teacher Carrie Layer praised the 58-student cast and crew for their determination and focus on the show. “Their high energy made for an excellent show for the audience,” she said.
