Serving Forward: Continuing Dr. King’s Legacy of Service
On Martin Luther King Day, Tallulah Falls School opened its campus for Serve Together, Grow Together, a special morning designed for fourth- and fifth-grade students at TFS and from the community to learn what it truly means to serve others, based on Martin Luther King's strong message, “Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve.”

Several students from the upper school who have dedicated their time and talents to service shared a brief message with the group. Emily Cai, Kaylin Pickett, Megan Prince, and Bushy Turnquest talked about their love of serving.
“I have had the chance to carry over my love for learning into serving at my local library by tutoring kids in my community. I have also had the chance to serve at GetReal Ministries, where I have met new people and helped them gain access to food, clothing, and knowledge of God,” she said. “Service is not only about what you can give to somebody else, but it is also about embracing the cultures and understanding the people you are helping.”
As the day unfolded, prospective and current students worked side by side with several of our TFS ambassadors from the upper school on hands-on service projects that support local organizations. The group made blankets for the local animal shelter, colorful placemats for the soup kitchen, and Valentine's Day cards for residents at assisted living facilities, designed care packages for families at a local shelter, and wrote encouraging messages on rocks to be placed throughout the community.
Through teamwork and shared purpose, students discover how community, leadership, and compassion are woven into everyday life, even a school day at TFS. Most importantly, the morning will reflect the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy—growing through service, learning through action, and building community together.
