TFS One-Act Team Wins Region Title with Fast-Paced Comedy
The Tallulah Falls School One-Act team captured first place at the GISA Region 1AAAA One-Act Play competition held on October 27. The troupe performed “We’ll Let You Know,” a fast-paced, 45-minute laugh-out-loud comedy that takes the classic job interview process and cranks the chaos up to eleven. “This ensemble-driven production was a goldmine for TFS’s veteran performers, filled with colorful characters and over-the-top antics that showcased bold comedic timing and sharp physical humor,” explained director Jonathan Roberts.
Roberts credits the team’s victory to strong senior leadership and veteran talent. “They created a very realistic experience for the audience,” he said. “This is the first straight comedy they’ve performed. I wanted to give them another genre to develop their skills, an all-out comedy, almost a farce.”
Because of the play’s format, where one actor enters after another rather than all being onstage together, the judges were especially impressed by the troupe’s teamwork and chemistry. “They still called it the best ensemble of the day because of how well they listened and reacted to each other,” Roberts said. “That’s a tribute to their improv training.”
“Whahoo!” exclaimed Harris when the judges announced TFS as the winner. “The judges told us the play felt the most real. We weren’t just reading lines; we were truly embodying our characters.” Harris, who played confident liar Mack Lofty, added, “I loved Mack’s energy – he definitely brought his own vibe.”
Senior Isabella McClain of Toccoa portrayed Gertrude A. Sullivan, a nearly retired secretary – or so she leads everyone to believe. “Our play had such a real element that it felt like something actually happening,” she said. Taking the judges’ advice, McClain modeled her character after her grandmother for authenticity.
Backstage laughter, camaraderie, and shared discipline defined the group’s success. “We couldn’t hold in our laughter, just like the audience couldn’t,” McClain added.
The team brought their performance to TFS from October 30 to November 1, and they will compete at the state level on November 12.
