Your Lower School Journey Starts Here

Transitioning to Lower School at TFS: JT Horn is here to tell you all about it. 

Fourth grade is pure awesomeness. It’s fun. Learning is fun. Everything is fun. It’s kind of like Harry Potter because everyone gets sorted into a house.

At the first assembly, I drew a picture from a hat that showed which house I would be in. I got Owls House. It’s fun because there are people you don’t know at first, but then you get to do things together and become friends. It’s even more fun when we win competitions.

When I first came to TFS, it was a weird feeling because I didn’t know anyone and I didn’t really know where to go. But I started meeting people and making friends. I forgot some names at first, but after a while, I remembered everyone.

At my old school, in third grade, there wasn’t really much to do. Here, there is so much to do. We get so many field trips every year, and they are all awesome. My favorite field trips were Athens Y Camp and snow tubing.

We learn so much. My teachers, Ms. Crenshaw and Ms. Purcell, always make learning fun and tell a bunch of funny stories. I learned that Benjamin Franklin invented a lot more than just electricity. I thought he only discovered electricity, but he also made the Franklin stove, created bifocal glasses, and invented many other things.

Last year, I played on club teams. I was on a swim club team, and sometimes on Fridays, we got free time in the pool at the end of practice. I would tell people, “You need to come here for all the sports. You can do any middle school sport when you are in fifth grade.”

I’m ready to try new sports, too. I had never really played golf before. Last year, I didn’t play at all, but I want to try it. I’ve never played tennis either, but I’m going to try that, too.
