Your Middle School Journey Starts Here

Transitioning to Middle School at TFS: Maizee Fleming is here to tell you all about it. 

TFS is so different from public school. The classes are smaller, which gives us more opportunities to know everyone. There are so many ways to get involved.

Academics

We didn’t just learn the basics; we really dove into the subjects and explored them in new ways. We had four different academic classes: English, science, math, and history.

The best part about academics at TFS is the communication with teachers. We have plenty of time and space to talk with them, ask questions, and get help when we need it.

Science is one of my favorite classes. We love Ms. Carnes. There were so many projects. In science, math, history, and English, we did presentations that helped build confidence in getting up and speaking to people. Those experiences helped us become more comfortable sharing our ideas.

Clubs, Arts, and Activities

Middle school gave us more opportunities to explore what we enjoy. We had clubs, more fine arts opportunities, and more freedom to try new things. It gave us options and helped us discover interests we may not have known we had.

I’m going to learn how to play the trumpet in band, and I’m excited to try something new.

Sports

There is a lot of balancing in middle school. I had to learn how to manage my time, but once I figured it out, it wasn’t that bad.

I played volleyball and soccer on the middle school teams. I was captain of the soccer team, and we finished second in the region. Being part of a team helped me build relationships and become more connected to the school.

Community and Experiences

Assemblies are a great example of how TFS is different. You aren’t just sitting and watching; you are participating, doing activities, and being part of the experience.

Some of my favorite memories come from the experiences we share together. We go to places like the mountain coaster and snow tubing, and those trips help us create memories outside the classroom.

Through Get Real Ministries, we help with Halloween candy, Christmas shops, and food packets. During the holidays, it is exciting to help people in our community. Not everyone has enough to eat or can afford the things they need, and we can make a difference. Small things can help. One little thing can create opportunities for people who might not have had them otherwise.

At the beginning of the school year, events like the festival and Y Camp help us connect. We have learning days, but we also have days focused on experiences. We had Glow Day, where we wore our own T-shirts and only wrote with highlighters. Those are the moments that make middle school special.
