Experiential Learning

Transformative, engaging, real-world discovery

From fourth grade until graduation, students engage in experiential learning opportunities. Whether identifying trees while hiking a trail on campus, fishing and kayaking at a nearby lake, or embarking on a week-long trip to Costa Rica, the active participation of both students and teachers in these unique learning experiences fosters meaningful and transformative attitudes, values, beliefs, and skills. Each experience provides an educational component that enriches students’ overall preparation for life beyond TFS and fosters genuine connections among them.

Experiential Learning Locally at Hardman Farms

"I felt like I was walking into a postcard when I stepped into the streets of Munich, Germany. “I was just wowed. I didn’t expect to be blown away. The landscape and the scenery were the highlights for me. The Alps - I have not seen any mountains that big with snowcaps, and I loved the little towns at the foot of the mountains."

MID-MESTER

The Mid-Mester experience for our upper school students offers unique learning opportunities. Trips have included Florida's Space Coast, Charleston, SC, New York City, Germany, and Costa Rica.

OUTDOOR EDUCATION

We live in an area that begs to be explored. Nestled in the North Georgia mountains and near Tallulah Gorge, students have access to a wealth of natural resources—hikes, walks, kayaking on the lake, and so much more.

SWIM AT SCHOOL

Very few schools have their own natatorium. All TFS students have multiple PE classes in the pool. There are designated class pool days, and we teach water safety and fun activities like kayak paddling, scuba, and water polo.
