Records continue to fall as TFS golfers continue winning ways
Tallulah Falls School boys and girls golf teams continue their winning ways as both teams came away victorious in recent matches.
In a March 14 matchup with Towns County played at the Orchard Golf & Country Club, the varsity boys were led by sophomore Kale Corbett of Lakemont who shot a 45 and freshman Tyler Popham of Demorest who shot a 47. With this win, the young team improved to 3-1 for the season.
The varsity girls won their match handily against Towns. The girls' team, led by sophomore Maggie Jackson of Clarkesville, recorded a TFS record for nine-hole play with a 37.
Sophomore Brinson Hall of Mt. Airy shot a 43 for a team score of 80.
Jackson and Hall have recently been on tear, according to head coach Allen Campbell.
Hall tied the TFS record for a nine-hole round last week (38) before Jackson shot her record-setting round of 37 on Thursday.
On Saturday, March 16 more records fell as the girls' team traveled to Athens and came away with a first-place finish in the Lady Titan Classic held at the Lane Creek Golf Course.
The Lady Indians outplayed 11 other teams from classifications as high as 7-A. The duo of Hall and Jackson once again led the way as Hall shot an 18-hole school record 74 for 18 holes, with a 36 (yet another TFS record) on the front nine.
Jackson was right on her heels with an 18-hole score of 75. The two-score total set a new TFS 18-hole record of 149.
Sophomore Selah Anderson of Clarkesville added a 99, giving the Lady Indians the Lady Titan Classic victory by 11 strokes over the second place North Hall team.
Campbell said the friendly competition between the two high-performing sophomores is helping both student-athletes to improve.
“These two young ladies have been pushing each other on the golf course since middle school,” Campbell said. “It is definitely a friendly competition and they continue to be great friends with fellow sophomore Selah Anderson as well. The team chemistry right now is awesome.”
