TFS varsity tennis topples HCHS

 
 

 

The Tallulah Falls School varsity boys and girls tennis teams defeated Habersham Central in an April 2 match at TFS. Both teams won by identical scores, defeating the Raiders 3-2. 

TFS senior Emily Wonders of Clarkesville was victorious at the No. 1 singles position winning 6-2, 6-2. Junior Taylor McAvoy of Lavonia dominated at the No. 2 singles position, defeating her opponent 6-1, 6-1. Freshman Sophie Herrera of Mt. Airy filled in at the No. 3 singles position for an injured teammate and gained valuable experience in a 3-6, 4-6 loss. 

The No. 1 doubles team of sophomore Caroline Turpin of Demorest and freshman Evette Corwin of Baldwin lost a close match that went to a superset tiebreaker 6-3, 4-6, 9-11. The Lady Indians earned the win as the No. 2 doubles team of freshmen Maggie Peacock of Clarkesville and Ava Wehrstein of Demorest dominated their match by a 6-2, 6-1 score. 

The TFS varsity boys team was led by junior Zhiyang Shu of China at the No. 2 singles position who dominated his match by a score of 6-1, 6-0. The No. 1 singles player senior Marvin Thiennukul of Thailand lost a close match 6-6 (4-7), 5-7. 

In doubles play, freshman Josh Jackson of Alto and junior David Cheng of China won their No. 1 doubles match in exciting fashion as they took the superset tiebreaker 3-6, 6-2, 7-3. 

The Indians closed out the competition impressively as seniors Joey Dekoskie of Clarkesville and Jake Carver of Demorest dominated by a 6-0, 6-1 score.
