TFS Lady Indians split weekend games

Tallulah Falls School’s varsity girls basketball team battled through early-season fatigue to go 1-1 over the weekend,  putting their record for the season at 2-1. TFS opened its season with three games in a five-day stretch.

On Friday, the Lady Indians took to the road to face Galloway. TFS came up short in a back-and-forth, physical game versus the Scots, 58-64. 

Senior Lillie Free of Clarkesville posted a career-high 24 points to go along with five rebounds and three assists in the loss. 

“Lillie played with her usual competitive spirit and displayed strong senior leadership,” head coach Brandy Corbett said. 

Freshman Veronaye Charlton of the Bahamas chipped in 16 points, four assists and three steals, while fellow freshman Denika Lightbourne of the Bahamas contributed 10 points, nine rebounds and two steals.

The Lady Indians were faced with a quick turnaround, having to play on their home court the next day at 2 p.m. TFS took control of the game against Landmark early, and never looked back, winning 67-44. For the second game in a row, a Lady Indian scored a career-high. 

Junior Katy Corbett of Lakemont posted a double-double in the win with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Free carried over her strong play from Friday’s game and put up 16 points to go along with five assists and three rebounds. Charlton posted 10 points and has reached double figures in each game of her high school career thus far. Junior Abby Carlan of Baldwin scored 10 of her 12 points in the first quarter, helping the Lady Indians get off to a fast start. She also pulled in seven rebounds and snagged three steals. 

“We are proud of the tenacity and grit displayed by our ladies this weekend and look forward to continued growth,” Corbett said.
