Season Preview: MS Boys Basketball

The middle school boys basketball teams are just days away from beginning the 2020-21 season. A glance at the talent on the roster shows a plethora of eighth graders — 15 to be exact. While those eighth graders, along with six seventh graders and two sixth graders, will compete for playing time throughout the season, the goal is to play as a team.

"Our motto is 'Ubuntu' which translates to, 'I am because we are,'" states coach Tom Tilley, who has coached basketball for 25 years at various levels. "They are perfect examples of a team," he adds regarding his middle school program.

The TFS middle school program features and "A" Team and a "B" Team. Tilley returns to coach the "A" Team, while Anthony Cox heads up the "B" Team.

The "A" Team is comprised of all eighth graders, while the "B" Team has a mix of a few eighth graders, mostly seventh graders, and a couple of sixth graders.

The season schedule tentatively contains 16 regular season games prior to the February Tri-State Tournament. The boys "B" Team will open up on Thursday, November 5 at home against White Creek Christian.

"The primary focus of our abbreviated "B" Team season is to introduce our players to the expectations we have as a program and to provide an opportunity to gain instruction and experience in a competitive basketball situation," says Cox. "This group has already been eager to learn and work hard, so we expect great things in the future."

The "A" Team opens up on Saturday, November 7 at Banks County in a Basketball Jamoboree. There are eight home games scheduled for the "A" and/or "B" Team.
