Season Preview: JV Girls Basketball
TFS enters new ground with the inclusion of this year's JV girls basketball team. The excitement is real for the Lady Indians and the basketball program as a whole.
"This year will mark the first time in TFS athletic history that the girls basketball program will have a middle school, junior varsity and varsity team," states head coach Tim Corbett. "We are very excited about the growth of our program and the opportunity that adding a JV team allows for players as they transition from middle school to high school basketball."
The influx of players led to the ability to field a JV team, and the expectations are more than meets the eye.
"First and foremost, we want this team to take steps to become competitive individually and collectively with every opponent on our schedule," says Corbett. "This initial JV team will set the standard for those young ladies that follow and with that in mind, the bar is set high."
The roster includes five sophomores and six freshmen.
"We are blessed to have a very deep roster within the girls high school program," says Corbett. "The JV roster will be a fluid one as players compete for time on the varsity team as well. Returning sophomores Tanisha Seymour, Miracle Bain and Sammeka Hepburn should all be strong contributors, while newcomer Christy Hulsey will also add depth to the line-up.Our freshman class is certainly accustomed to winning and will provide support as well."
The freshmen are Allie Phasavang, Molly Mitchell, Keygan Antosiak, Kyndall Anderson, Maebree Holcomb and Ana Harris.
"All of our returning sophomores, as well as Molly and Allie, we hope to see share minutes on both teams," adds Corbett. "Speaking of impact, we welcome former TFS player Isabelle Almoyan who will play an integral role in assisting with both Varsity and JV. With such a large group, it’s nice to have an extra set of knowledgeable eyes and the ability to provide more hands-on instruction with additional staff."
The style of play we can expect to see from the Lady Indians JV team will mirror the varsity team.
"In support of our varsity program, the JV will incorporate a similar playing style," says Corbett. "Our entire game will be fast paced with the foundation built around defense and sound fundamentals. With at least ten players available on any given game day, the ideal situation would involve getting multiple lineups on the floor to allow for an uptempo game with an offense created by tenacious defense."
The JV team is set to open the 2020-21 season on December 3 at Towns County.
