JV boys open season with close win

The JV boys basketball team earned a momentum-grabbing win on Tuesday night at Bethlehem Christian, 40-32. The team, who had been in quarantine for two weeks, and an additional week out for the Thanksgiving holiday break, had only one day to practice as a complete team before their first game.

"Needless to say, it was a rusty and a rough start in the first half with the players working off first their first game jitters and fatigue before settling down to play good team defensive basketball," says coach Lowell Hamilton. "Although we didn't play great offensively, we had an excellent second half defensive effort led by Gavin Page, Lincoln Hall, and Tyler Brown forcing turnovers and breaking Bethlehem's second-half momentum."

The Indians did enough to come out with a win to open the 2020-21 slate. Page led all scorers with a game-high 14 points, along with George Ketch's 13.

"This was a great effort from a team that only had one day to prepare for their season's first basketball game, which gives us confidence going into the rest of the season," states Hamilton.

The boys are 1-0 and return to the court Thursday at Towns County.
