TFS middle school girls' basketball team wins conference title
Excitement bubbled over to mark a milestone day for the Tallulah Falls School middle school girls’ basketball team after winning the Tri-State Conference title against Towns County on Feb. 1, with a final score of 35-25.
“It took commitment, dedication, and determination to win a championship,” said coach Sharae Long. “A team that was overlooked early in the season persevered and ended the season 13-1. Every girl played a huge role in the success of this team.”
Eighth-grader Allie Phasavang of Clarkesville led the team in rebounds averaging 9.3 per game, Long said.
Seventh-grader Haygen James of Demorest led the team on the offensive end, averaging 10.4 points per game and eighth-grader Molly Mitchell of Cornelia led the team with an outstanding 7.8 assists per game, she added.
“What an amazing season for such a great group of girls,” Long said.
The 2019-20 middle school girls' basketball team included eighth-grader Keygan Antosiak of Clayton, seventh-grader Haygen James of Demorest, eighth-grader Molly Mitchell of Cornelia, eighth-grader Kyndal Anderson of Mt. Airy, eighth-grader Ana Harris of Toccoa, sixth-grader Kaylin Pickett of Mt. Airy, seventh-grader Chesney Tanksley of Mt. Airy, sixth-grader Emma Arden of Clarkesville, seventh-grader Millie Holcomb of Clarkesville, seventh-grader Maggie Shelton of Cornelia, eighth-grader Allie Phasavang of Clarkesville and seventh-grader Bree Wood of Clarkesville.
