Clay Kafsky, Allison Bailey lead TFS middle school cross country in Athens meet

The TFS middle school cross country teams competed at Athens Academy on Thursday. The girls and boys had great success overall, with the girls finishing third, and the boys placing two in the top 11 individually.

"Under a canopy of drippy steam along the track, long incline, tunnel, lakes and heart pounding hill on the 3K Athens Academy cross country course, TFS seventh and eighth grade harriers scurried with region peers AA and Prince Avenue in a tri meet," describes coach Scott Neal. "Life lessons are learned in a middle school meet: early passion is good, but finishing strong is more important; just keep going; we are better together!"

The girls were led by Allison Bailey, who finished fourth overall with a 14:17. Bailey's placement was a personal best for her. Teammate and fellow eighth grader Josie Chesser placed fifth with a 14:19. Molly Rickman and Carsyn Griffis made significant improvement on the shorter 3K course.

The boys were paced by Clay Kafsky's sixth-place finish. He ran a 12:30 in the 3K, while Jason Bard came in 11th at 13:41. Bryson Freeman and Charlie Harris dropped their times significantly from last week's season-opening meet.
