Middle school tennis blanks Banks County to open season

The middle school tennis teams took to the court on Thursday evening to open the 2020 season. Going in with an automatic 2-0 lead for the girls and 1-0 for the boys due to Banks forfeits at certain lines, TFS completed the match with a great showing by all players.

The boys went on to a 5-0 win, earning an automatic win by forfeit in the #2 doubles match. Tanner Davis (8-2), Everett VanOrman (8-0) and TJ Cox (8-1) all won their matches with relative ease. The #1 doubles combo of Aiden VanOrman and Jake Owensby (8-0) earned a win, while Zach Carringer and KC Respress at #2 doubles earned the forfeit win.

On the girls side, Landry Carnes (8-0), Madeline Martin (8-1) and Lizzi Huebner (8-0) earned singles wins, as both doubles teams took forfeit wins to complete the 5-0 shutout.

"We were very successful," says coach Lisa Wilcox. "Last year, the boys won against this team and our girls lost. I was thinking our boys would do really well again this year because we had only lost two players to the ninth grade. Our girls are a bit young but they will gain their confidence as the season progresses, and with their confidence, their skills will develop."

The boys and girls are both 1-0 on the season, and return to action on Thursday, September 10 at Franklin County.
