JV volleyball splits in region tournament

The JV Lady Indians played in their region tournament on Saturday, and split against two solid teams.

After dropping the first set to Athens Christian Academy, 18-25, the girls rebounded with a second set 25-15 win to even the match. Athens Christian took an early lead in the third set, but TFS won 15-8.

"Thanks to stellar serving from Claire Kelly and Kitty Rodenas, the Lady Indians took the match," says coach Matt Crotta. "With this win, we advanced to play against the quick and scrappy George Walton JV squad with hopes to move on to the championship match."

George Walton started off with a barrage of serves that were too tough to handle for the Lady Indians. They also played great defense against Tallulah Falls School's hardest hitters, Julianne Shirley, Kitty Rodenas and Layne Kafsky. George Walton took the first set 20-25.

However, the Lady Indians never gave up hope. Kelly's run of seven consecutive unanswered serves accompanied by Rodenas' unstoppable hitting from the outside were too much for GW to stop. TFS took the second set with a demanding 25-16 win. After quickly passing through the entire rotation in the third set and falling behind 6-14, With the support of awesome defense behind her, Julianne Shirley did everything she could to serve the team back into a position to win the third set by giving TFS a run of seven points. Unfortunately, GW won the third set 12-15, denying TFS its opportunity to face off against Athens Academy in the Championship match.

The Lady Indians are 9-9 on the season, and still have a few matches remaining on the season schedule.
