Soccer notches pair of mercy rule wins over Athens Christian on senior night

 
 

CHAZ MULLIS - The TFS soccer teams celebrated Senior Night on Thursday night, securing mercy-rule wins against visitor Athens Christian.

 

GIRLS

The girls varsity team imposed a mercy rule against Athens Christian, only allowing one goal to be scored from the opposition.  

Kat Williams dribbled past the defense to put in the Lady Indians’ first goal, followed by a goal from Grace Kim assisted by Honora Kahwach a minute after. Kahwach assisted Iray Adeleke with a goal towards the middle of the first, and shot in one of her own shortly thereafter. Williams knocked in a corner kick around the 30-minute mark. Three more goals, scored by Kim, Sydney Coffey and Fendi Jean-Louis, ended the first half at 8-1.

Beginning the second half, Kim used a Williams corner kick to score a header. Kim and Adeleke ended out the match with a goal each, resulting in a mercy rule, 11-1.

The girls are now 7-3-1 overall and 7-2 in region play. With a state playoff bid clinched, the girls play Friday at home for a chance at a #2 seed, which would grant them a home playoff game.


BOYS

The boys also mercy-ruled their opponents, only allowing one goal from the opposing team in an 11-1 win.

Max Farris touched in a goal 10 minutes into the first, tying the school record for most individual goals with 23. Joe Griswold scored a PK moments later. Sammy Davis shot in his first goal of the game with an assist from Farris, following with Farris breaking the said school record with his 24th goal. Later, Davis both snatched a header from a Farris corner kick and drilled in an Austin Ball-assisted goal. David Rodriguez ended the half by securing an assisted ball from Farris, ending the first half at 7-1. 

Cainan Yaskiewicz took his turn scoring a penalty kick, securing the first goal of the season in the second half. Rodriguez, Ball and Trevor Bramlett later scored a goal each, initiating a mercy rule at 11-1.
