Indians drop heart-breaker in third game against Athens Academy
The TFS Indians had a win in sight when leading 8-1 in the fourth inning Friday at Athens Academy. However, the seven-run lead evaporated, as the home Spartans scored five in the fourth, four in the fifth, and added three in the sixth for a 13-9 TFS loss.
Trailing early 1-0, Tate Shaw doubled in a run to tie it up in the second. In the third, the Indians scored six runs, highlighted by RBI doubles by Chathan Clouatre and Trent Thomas (two-run double). Thomas later scored on a wild pitch, and Shaw recorded an RBI groundout to make it 6-1. Malique Charlton's sac fly left it at 7-1 to finish off the scoring that inning.
Frankey Moree had an RBI single the next inning to push it to 8-1, but the Spartans scored five in the home half, including hitting a grand slam homerun. The Indians trailed 10-8 going into the sixth, and got one back with a bases loaded walk by Moree.
Six different TFS batters recorded hits, led by Clouatre's three hits, RBI, and three runs scored. Thomas finished with two hits, two RBI, and a run. Moree and Shaw had one hit and two RBI apiece. Clouatre took the loss in relief after taking over for Aubrey Higgins.
TFS falls to 13-9 overall and 7-5 in region play.
