Indians of the Week: September 19-24

TFS has named the Indian of the Week for the week of September 19-24. This week's selections are Allison Bailey and Timothy Beck for high school, and LB Kafsky & Shelby Whisnant and Elijah Pinney for middle school. MORE INDIANS OF THE WEEK

ALLISON BAILEY - CROSS COUNTRY (HS GIRL)

Sophomore Allison Bailey ran an inspired race at the TFS Heroes XC Invite, placing 9th in a personal record time of  25.23.33, which was a 2:33 course time drop this season. She has improved each meet, racing strategically smart while managing well the inherent physical and mental discomfort of becoming a good harrier. Her role modeling of joy in the midst of toughness made an impact upon her teammates, a distinct demonstration of an ownership mentality. -coach Scott Neal

TIMOTHY BECK - CROSS COUNTRY (HS BOY)

Sophomore Timothy Beck ran a personal record and 38 second course best 18:59.25 to place 8th at the 11th Annual TFS Heroes XC Invite. Timothy did not let the midmester weeklong Charleston, XC trip interfere with his training; he continued his running even in the midst of a hectic, but memorable trip.  That GREAT mindset sets him apart. Timothy is a doer of deeds, always actively encouraging and helping others while choosing to be diligent in his own training. -coach Scott Neal

LB KAFSKY/SHELBY WHISNANT - VOLLEYBALL (MS GIRL)

LB provides consistent leadership through her vocal leadership style on the floor. She gets to the ball and takes some talented shots when swinging. Shelby provides a presence at the net that is intimidating, causing the opponents to hit over the top of her. She has improved a great deal in attacking the ball at the net instead of waiting on it. Both girls are deserving of this and provide completely different aspects to the game. -coach Jo Kimbrel

ELIJAH PINNEY - TENNIS (MS BOY)

The Indian of the Week for Middle School Tennis is sixth-grader Elijah Pinney. Elijah has mostly played the third singles spot for our boys team, which is a difficult position for someone new to tennis, especially for a sixth-grader. Early in the season, it was an adjustment to rise to the level of play of some of his opponents, but late in the season he has found his focus and been able to secure some important victories for his team. Last week on Tuesday, he beat his Habersham opponent 8-4 for the second time in the season, which helped seal the victory for the boys squad. Then, on Thursday, in another important matchup versus Macon County, Elijah dominated, cruising to an 8-0 victory and putting the first point on the board for our team, which would ultimately take the match and second place in the league. Elijah has a bright future in tennis, in part because he thinks about his game and his strategy, and he is making great strides to improve his game. -coach Anthony Cox
