Tallulah Falls School coaches have selected their Indian athletes of the week for January 22-27.

MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRL

Eighth-grader Sammy Hartman of Clermont was named an Indian of the Week by swim coach Annette Cochran. “Sammy was part of the 200-yard medley relay which was seeded ninth,” Cochran said. “They dropped more than seven seconds placing sixth overall in the state. Sammy was also part of the 200-yard freestyle relay which also placed sixth in the state. In Sammy’s individual events she lowered her times and finished higher than her seeds. She swam the 50-yard freestyle placing fourth, the 50-yard fly placing fifth and the 50-yard breaststroke placing fourth. Sammy played a huge part in the girls' team finishing sixth overall at state.”

MIDDLE SCHOOL BOY

Eighth-grader Matt Cochran of Demorest was selected as an Indian of the Week by swim coach Annette Cochran. “Matt had an amazing week where he dropped time in each of his races,” Cochran said. “He placed first in the breaststroke at the state meet. Matt placed tenth in the butterfly event out of 25 swimmers and 14th in the 100-yard freestyle out of 40 swimmers. He also helped the boys medley relay team place first at the state meet. The boys' team scored enough points to place second overall in the state of Georgia.”

MIDDLE SCHOOL BOY

Eighth-grader Nelson Wilkinson of Cleveland was named an Indian of the Week by swim coach Annette Cochran. “Nelson placed first in the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 1:03.36, breaking the school record,” Cochran said. “He swam the 50-yard freestyle placing second overall and in the 50-yard butterfly, he placed second with a time of 27.01 which broke another school record. Nelson also helped the boys medley relay team place first at the middle school state meet this past weekend.  The boys' team scored enough points to place second overall in the state of Georgia.”

VARSITY GIRL

Senior Mali Danavall was named an Indian of the Week by varsity girls basketball coach Brandy Corbett. “Mali was challenged last week to take greater ownership in her role as a senior leader,” Corbett said. “She had six points and nine rebounds on Friday and ten points and five rebounds on Saturday. She worked hard on both ends of the court and was just the spark we needed at the beginning of the third quarter when she scored eight consecutive points.”

VARSITY BOY

Senior Xing Fan was selected as an Indian of the Week by varsity boys basketball coach Jim Van Hooser. “While Xing did not score a lot of points or get a lot of rebounds, he is a model of a great teammate,” Van Hooser said. “Xing works hard every day to be not only the best player he can be but also to make his teammates better.”
