Tallulah Falls Students Deep Dive Into Books at TomeCon 2025
Tallulah Falls students took a deep dive into books at TomeCon 2025 on Tuesday, March 18th. The event is hosted annually by Tome Society, a nonprofit literacy organization based in Georgia. According to the website, “TomeCon is an exciting day of concurrent sessions based on all facets of literacy for students in grades 2-12. Session topics include reading, writing, technology, engineering, art, music, and more! Authors from across the country visit with and teach students.”
This year’s conference theme was “Dive In!” Students attended seminars of their choice with authors, created bookmarks and book art, purchased books, and attended author book signings. Authors included Gary Schmidt, Kevin Sands, Margaret Peterson Haddix, and many others.
Several TFS students won awards for projects submitted to the Tome Society Competitions.
Senior Caroline Smith of Mount Airy placed first in Book Talk and received special recognition for participation in Tome since fourth grade. Smith and senior Raegan Duncan of Martin received a $500 Dale Pratt Memorial Scholarship.
Freshman Gracie Gunter of Cornelia placed first in Book Review Video, and sophomore Megan Prince of Rabun Gap placed second in Book Review Blog and third in Book Connections Video. Juniors Emily Cai of Cleveland and Lily Gaglio of Lakemont placed third in Research Infographic, and senior Joliet Okoronkwo of Euless, Texas, placed third in Fan Art.
Eighth grader Maeve Hatcher of Sautee placed first in Theme Essay, eighth grader Quinlan Flanders of Sautee placed first in Fan Art, and seventh grader Isaac Helgeland of Toccoa placed second in Book Print Video.
Students also enjoyed participating in a raffle for gift baskets and sharing their love of reading and writing with fellow students, teachers, and authors.
