TFS bass fishing club duo qualifies for state

Tournament season for the Tallulah Falls School Bass Fishing Club is off to a strong start with another student-angler pair qualifying for state during the November competition held at Lake Oconee.

Student-anglers Caleb Griffis, a junior and Caden Griffis, a sophomore, landed three fish, with a combined weight of 5.35 pounds, finishing at 20th place in the event. Stan Griffis, father of the sibling pair is the captain for this team. The family lives in Martin. Team Griffis is new to the club for the 2017-18 season.

This is the second TFS fishing pair to qualify for state, with junior division members Molly and Jacob Mitchell posting a qualifying weight earlier in the season.

“This creel of fish weighed enough to qualify Team Griffis to represent the TFS Bass Fishing Club in the state championship next May,” said Russell Williams, captain and club leader.

A total of 152 high school and 22 junior division teams participated in November's tournament.

“Just as the sport continues to grow nationwide, the growing popularity of our school's club was evident at the Lake Oconee event as represented by three high school teams and one junior division team wearing TFS colors,” Williams said. “While all four teams did well during practice days, tournament day proved to be tough on three out of the four of the teams.”

The club is on competition hiatus in December with the next tournament set for January at Lake Eufaula.

“We’ll be back on the water again in January in anticipation of a strong finish for TFS in the last five tournaments of the 2017-18 season,” Williams said.
