Season Preview: eSports

Fresh off an Elite 8 finish (7th Place) in the inaugural season for eSports, the TFS program is thinking even bigger this season, and will be led once again by Casey Barron.

The program consists of 15 TFS students, as well as manager Savannah Harris. The roster is split into three teams, two of which are in the Rocket League and one in the League of Legends.

"We have faced many challenges due to COVID, because two of our League of Legend players are playing from Korea and China," says Barron. "Daniel Shin is playing from Korea but is still one of the leaders of the TFS Mushrooms, the LOL team. Also, Justin Yu is our Senior leader for the TFS Mushrooms team and has been a great help this fall organizing and encouraging the team. Both of these players have great skill and knowledge of the game."

Daniel is one of the key players that will determine the success of this year's teams.

"Daniel is a sophomore and is determined to win state before he graduates," says Barron. "I believe if it wasn't for COVID, the Mushrooms would have made a run at state in the spring and again this fall. I still think they will have a great season despite the obstacles they are facing being in Korea and China."

The LOL team is made up of Daniel Shin, Justin Yu, Nana Amankwah, Junho So, Ben Fisher, David Hu and Hanwu Fang.

There are two Rocket League teams this fall.

"There is one senior-laden team, The Farming Simulator, that has Eli Higbie, Baylor Macbeth, Cain Chitwood and Grant Barron," says Barron. "This team has been together since last fall and should do well this season. All of these seniors are great leaders and work well together. I also have a new freshman team, the TFS Indians that consists of Tyler Cook, Josiah Turney, Eli Damron and Jackson Shadburn. These guys are young but passionate about eSports and have a great future ahead of them."

Both teams so far have started the season off with victories.

"The big difference this year is my freshman team competes in the regional bracket which consists of schools all across the eastern United States," adds Barron. "The senior team is competing in the GHSA state league again and should do well this fall. This gives us a chance to win a state championship and have a chance to win a national title also."

The Farming Simulator is 2-0 to start the year, while the TFS Indians are 1-1 and the TFS Mushrooms 1-1. The teams play on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
