The first Indians of the Week — for the week ending August 8 — for the 2020-21 school year were named on Tuesday. The Indians of the Week recognizes a high school boy and girl, as well as a middle school boy and girl. This week's winners are Dani Prince, Walker Bailey, Julia Smith and Dalton Blackwell.

Dani Prince - Cross Country

High School Girl

Though hurdling in track & field is her primary sport and event, freshman Dani Prince worked diligently all summer long to improve her stamina, power and running form for the upcoming harrier season. She set personal records in the weight room, already improved her 5k times and continues to be an encouraging teammate and role model. -Cross country coach Scott Neal

Walker Bailey - Cross Country

High School Boy

Sophomore cross country runner Walker Bailey has already set two 5k personal records this summer. Running additional sessions over the summer and a strengthened set of goals combined to lead a summer to remember. I'm quite proud of how Walker has become a true cross country competitor, a role model of work ethic and an admirable teammate. -Cross country coach Scott Neal

Julia Smith - Volleyball

Middle School Girl

Eighth grader Julia Smith has worked over the summer practicing and working out/training. Julia took full advantage of voluntary workouts during the summer and has definitely grown in several areas since last season. Julia has improved and continues to improve each day at our practices. I can't wait to see her advancement by the end of the season. -MS volleyball coach Whittney LaHayne

Dalton Blackwell - Cross Country

Middle School Boy

Dalton Blackwell, a seventh grader, returned to his second season of middle school cross country with his contagious, joyful effort in each of the varieties of training. Whether continuous or interval running or circuit training, Dalton certainly gives his best while exploring the surroundings, digging deep to see how fast he can go, or just enjoying the moment. He is a delight to coach and to see develop as a runner and GREAT teammate. -Cross country coach Scott Neal
