Middle school volleyball claims comeback win over East Jackson

The middle school girls volleyball A-Team produced a thrilling comeback win at East Jackson on Wednesday night. After dropping the first set, the girls dug deep to win the next two sets and take the match.

"The girls were dragging in this first set," says coach Whittney LaHayne. "We couldn't get to any balls, we were missing serves, just all around rough. We were able to find our groove."

The girls dropped the first set 25-14, but found that groove LaHayne mentions with a 25-21 win to even the match at a set apiece.

"Chesney Tanksley and Gemma Farris led again in this set with their serves. The rest of A-Team assisted one another, called the ball, and were finally working together."

That teamwork bled into the tie-breaking set, where TFS won a 16-14 nail-biter.

"Mia Hammon pulled out three serves after we won the ball back, putting us at 13-10," says LaHayne. "We were able to keep the lead and the win. It was an overall great night after we all synced together."

The B-Team split in two sets, losing the first 25-19 before grabbing a 25-16 win to tie.

"The same thing took place with B-Team, they started off real sluggish but found their groove in the second set," says LaHayne. "Shelby Whisnant led in the second set with her serves."

The A-Team moves to 3-2 on the young season, while the B-Team's tie moves them to 1-3-1 overall. The teams return to action on Monday, August 31 at home against Banks County.
