Season Preview: Girls Soccer

The best season in school history came with a 12-win tally, Region Runner-Up finish, and a #6 state ranking on the way to a first-ever Sweet 16 run. Graduating the program’s top goal-scorer in history (Addie Higbie) and another big-time playmaker in Maddie Mullis leaves some voids to be filled. Both were 2nd Team All-State selections.

“We are losing two huge contenders this year — both contributed a great deal to our offense and we are excited for our returners to rise up to the challenge of filling their roles on the field,” says new head coach Erin Jimenez.

However, star keeper Kyndal Anderson (1st Team All-Region) and Region 8-A DI Defensive Player of the Year Josie Chesser (also 2nd Team All-State) will anchor a strong defense.

“We have a deep midfield, strong defensive players, and a team that works cohesively,” adds Jimenez.

Anderson, Josie and Jenna Chesser, along with veterans Tessa Foor and Maddie LeBlanc will be a ‘force to be reckoned with,’ according to Jimenez.

After a third consecutive Region Runner-Up finish, the Lady Indians will look to maintain their high standards and perhaps advance beyond last season’s historic run. Someone will need to step up offensively, as Jenna Chesser (9 career goals) and Tessa Foor (4) have the bulk of the scoring experience. However, there are several players coming up from the undefeated middle school team last year that could grow into that option. Freshman LB Kafsky could be that player, as she tallied north of 30 goals last season.

“Our expectation is to have a winning record and make it to the state playoffs,” states Jimenez. “Coach [Travis] Mullis did a fabulous job getting these girls to the playoffs last year and we are looking to return to the playoffs again this year.”

TFS opens the season in a non-counting scrimmage versus Seckinger at home January 31, and officially begins the slate on February 6 (also at home) against Athens Academy.
