Lady Indians fight hard in tough loss to defending state runner-up

The Lady Indians fought valiantly in a 3-2 loss at home in Tuesday’s season-opener against defending state runner-up Athens Academy.

The defense held strong throughout the opening half despite the Lady Spartans often on attack. Athens Academy got on the board first with 21:25 on the clock on a long-range shot.

TFS has a few good looks with three corner kicks and a handful of shots on goal. Two shots, one from Jenna Chesser and another from LB Kafsky, hit off the post. Maddie LeBlanc had a shot as well. Tallulah trailed 1-0 at the break.

In the second half, the Lady Indians got new life on a goal with 33:33 on the clock, as Kafsky had a beautiful through ball to Chesser, who had a perfect strike to the left corner of the net. Chesser nearly had a goal moments later in a controversial play where she was brought down in front of the goal.

The offense continued to press, and Kyndal Anderson made several nice stops in goal on the other side. Josie Chesser and the back line did well to keep Athens Academy at bay.

The visitors put the go-ahead goal in with 17:02 left in the contest, scooting one past Anderson. At the 13:18 mark, a loose ball was put in by the Lady Spartans for the 3-1 advantage.

Tessa Foor made good on a PK with 2:32 remaining to bridge the gap to 3-2. Anderson had 14 saves, and Sarah Lundy had a nice block in the second half.

"The girls really showed out tonight," says coach Erin Jimenez. "A 2-3 score against a team that historically mercy rules us was an outstanding score. I am very very proud of how hard they worked. They were especially aggressive and fought until the end."

TFS is now 0-1 on the season.
