TFS swimmers continue to excel at meets

 
 

Tallulah Falls school womens’ varsity swimmers took second place behind Jefferson in a field of 10 teams at the TFS-hosted Winter Snow Invitational Swim meet held Dec. 3 at the Ruby C. Fulbright Aquatic Center in Clarkesville. The mens’ team finished third behind Jefferson and Oconee among nine teams. 

According to coach Susan Nichols, sophomore Virginia Griswold of Clarkesville scored the most individual points with a second place finish in the 100-yard butterfly and third in the 200-yard individual medley. Senior Julia Nichols of Clarkesville placed second in the 200-yard freestyle. Sophomore Norah Griswold of Clarkesville placed second in the 500-yard freestyle. Freshman Reid Kafsky of Clarkesville set a personal record and third place in a field of 47 competitors in the 50-yard freestyle. Kafsky placed third in the distance event of the 500-yard freestyle. The relay team of Virginia Griswold, Norah Griswold, Kafsky and Nichols placed second in the 400-freestyle yard relay. The Griswold sisters, Nichols and freshman Sarah Edwards of Sautee-Nacoochee were second in the medley relay.

In the mens’ competition, freshman John Nichols of Clarkesville scored the most individual points with a first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, and second in the 500-yard freestyle. Sophomore Nick Stelmack of Toccoa placed second in the 100-yard freestyle with a 52.69 and a Georgia High School Association state-qualifying time. 

The mens’ team had a difficult start to the meet with both medley relay teams disqualified for early relay take off exchanges which set the the team in seventh place after the opening races. “The relay team of Nichols, freshman Chris Geiger of Sautee-Nacoochee, freshman Riley Barron of Roswell, and Stelmack placed second in the 200-yard freestyle relay, and both the mens’ 400-yard freestyle relay teams coordinated to fight back to finish in 3rd place behind Jefferson and Oconee against nine men’s team,” Nichols said. 

The varsity teams will compete at a meet Thursday at Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School and both the varsity and  middle school teams will compete at a Habersham Central High School-hosted meet on Dec. 10.
