Marist meet brings mid-week success for track & field team

Track and field athletes at Tallulah Falls School traveled to Marist School on March 29 to compete in a six school meet.

According to Athletic Director Scott Neal, the meet was intended as primarily JV with additional varsity competition to allow unlimited entries in order for all athletes to compete.

“The blue, six-lane Mondo surface, incredible weather and different format was instrumental in the development of our athletes,” Neal said. “TFS boys placed second of four scoring teams while our girls placed third of six schools.”

Highlights include a lowered school 400m record and victory by Zatrick Pearce (50.35), victories by Cusai Alfred-Igbokwe (PR 17.00 100m hurdles and 44.98 PR 300m hurdles) and the 4x4 relay (Rolain Saintilus, Ajani Knowles, Thala Freeman, and Pearce in 3:33.29 - currently ranked first in the Region 8A and third in 1A-Pvt).

Perry Gresham ran the 1600m in 5:42.66 (ranked No. 4 in Region 8A) to lower her school record and blistered a PR 2:35.47 for the 800m.  Anna Davis won both hurdles within a tenth of a second of her school records and is currently ranked #1 in 1A-Pvt.  The 4x4 relay team (Sydney Spivey, Perry Gresham, Sunni Brett, and Davis) won in 4:22.77, two tenths off the school record and presently ranked No. 6 in 1A-Pvt.

Personal records were achieved by nearly every athlete in at least one event, Neal said.
“Inspiring performances by Aaron Hughes (back from six weeks off from a mountain biking accident), Jenni Gallagher (three PRs), Tahj Moss (200m, 400m), Rolain Saintilus (200m, 400m both relays), Oliver Foster (discus), Chance Bess (threw shot and discus in a sling and still threw well!) and the TFS hurdle crew highlighted the evening,” Neal added.
